Materials & surface finishes

What the metal is, how it is finished, and what each finish does in service. We specify the material rather than a brand of steel, because the difference shows up in your product.

The Base Material

Commercially pure titanium

Tivarol uses commercially pure titanium rather than a titanium alloy. The distinction matters in food-contact applications: the purer grades contain fewer alloying elements and fewer metallic inclusions, which is what keeps a brew free of any off-note and a surface free of electrochemical reaction with acidic food.

  • Chemically inert — no reaction with acid, alkali or salt.
  • No metallic aftertaste in tea, coffee or water.
  • Spontaneously forms a self-healing titanium dioxide passivation layer when scratched.
  • Corrosion resistance covers marine, saline and acidic environments.
  • Biocompatible and non-toxic, with no heavy-metal leaching.

Finishing

Four surface treatments, four jobs

Every finish is applied to the titanium itself. None of them is a coating over the metal, so none of them can chip away to expose a different surface underneath.

Sandblasted

A uniform matte texture that improves grip, hides fingerprints and resists scratching in daily use. The default finish across the catalogue.

Ice-Crystal

Formed by high-temperature vacuum crystallisation, producing a three-dimensional facet pattern that catches light without adding to wall thickness.

Stone-Washed

A controlled distressed finish designed to disguise scuffs and trail wear for the roughest outdoor programmes.

Colour Oxide

Deep tones grown from the metal by anodising. The colour layer is part of the surface, so it cannot transfer to food or fade in the dishwasher.
